RE-FRAMING KEVIN'S SHIRTS

For the past 2 years my paintings of Kevin's shirts have sat on the floor of my studio. These works are in some ways my favorite pieces I have ever made. They are elegant and direct. I look at them nearly every day and they have served as generators for much of my recent pieces. I wanted to test out what would happen if I continued to work them, so I produced a series of painted mats in order to re-frame, and re-contextualize the small gouache paintings. The new patterns are copied from cloth items I have aquired since moving to Toronto. Through this re-combination and re-contextualization of the familliar with the new, I offer combinations that mimic the subtle ways that things are combined and stored in the home.
