A NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK
In my current home, I surround myself with artifacts that tell the story of my life. I have bestowed memories upon them. They are the protagonists in my stories, I have collected them over years, and have carefully packed and unpacked them, as I have moved from home to home. The act of rearranging them reflects who I am. My current rental is deliberately cluttered, yet my things are always organized. Each object holds at least one story, and for now, those anecdotes are my own, but each will eventually carry on without me, For the stuff I own will outlive my physical body. My memory is steadfast, yet my health is a slippery thing, and the boundary between wellness and sickness is often blurry. The personal objects collected here, and the texts about them, are an attempt to catch some of the rough edges of a life lived.
The text here is drawn from a manuscript for a memoir entited: When I Close My Eyes, I See Orange. I am still searching for a publisher.
